Very, very, very proud!

Very very very proud on my student’s today. Kal, Sky, Kaili and Taras passed their Rally Obedience exam today with flying colors, especially considering the heat.

Žak and little Lego stood on the podium on agility competition, and they both made an exam for A2. Miss Pheobe made Maja happy with her A-frame contact.

If I left anyone out, let me know!

Big congrats and thanks to their great handlers.

I have no results of my own to be proud on… I have lots of non-dog stuff to do this spring, so I skipped some competitions and I am not really good with trainings either. Kiša is on a brake due to a tick-disease, Šja has a new haircut and Šaj is more than happy that swimming season started for real.

Medo found a new home!

Old Medo hit the jackpot. He got the best possible new home. Big house, HUGE garden, a cat, 4 kids and someone home 24/7. Now I can only wish him many, many , many years to enjoy it.

Have you ever watched a movie called Le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain? Well, if Amelie had a dog, it would definitely be Šja, my strange little brainiac. Šja can be anything she wants. A cat when she plays, a pillow when she wants to crawl under my blanket, an old lady when she walks slowly into the water and a Labrador Retriever when she swims like crazy to rescue a stick from the water. She can be quiet as a mouse and loud like… well a Mudi. She can run like a gazelle and think like a person. She lives in a world of her own, but she is an indispensable part of mine. Happy birthday little doggy, and a many, many, many more years to come!

Starting the season

Time flies. It is May already, and there are plenty agility competitions all around.

So far, Kiša is the nerd of the pack. She made her 2^nd exam for A2 in Ljutomer, winning the competition all together, and her third and last one 14 days later in Ptuj. Since this was a WC qualifying competition I had the opportunity to start her in A3 immediately so I did it. Sadly she had one bar down in each run, but she managed to run her first two A3 runs without elimination, so that is a promising start. I am publishing a video with both agility runs (A2 and A3), to show her contacts. As you might know, I started to train Kiša for both, 2on2off and running contacts and so far it works well. I want to be able to use running for straight lines and up to 90° turns, and 2on2off for sharper turns and some tricky situations after the dog walk. The training process is not finished yet, but I can say that at this stage she can clearly understand the difference. I want to improve her speed for 2on2off because sometimes it is not the best + we need to train mild turns and handling after the running contact, but life would be boring if everything is perfect already from the start.

As for the rest of the gang – little Šja decided it is time to start jumping contacts on the dog-walk. I hope that doesn’t became an issue, but she missed 2 in a row already… grrr

Šaj improved her speed; I think she finally got the idea of agility (well I told you she is rather slow…), and running with her is really fun, but she has big problems with bars. If she is anything like her mum (who is still running like hell in large with full 12 years!), I guess I will have to wait a few more years before she will be able to think and run at the same time.

Apart from agility we have discovered the beauty of bikejoring and canicross and the pack is more than happy to swim again. I am still waiting for water to get warm enough… can’t wait…

Kiša is the only dog of my pack that takes life (and Šaj ) a little bit too serious. Not only that she is a true workaholic, she does everything like it is a matter of life and death. (If you don`t believe me, try to steal my car when she is inside… ) It is impossible not to admire her big heart and stamina, but her rare goofy moments (when she thinks no one is watching) are really something to see.

I am pretty sure her biggest wish is to exchange Šaj for a Border collie or two, but since that is not going to happen, a chewing bone and a bit of ear-scratching will just have to do.

So happy birthday, my silly workaholic!

Medo needs a new home

Medo is 11 years old Croatian Sheepdog male who is hiding his age very well. He has absolutely no problem following us on our long walks and his favourite activities are chasing a ball or a Frisbee. He is definitely the cuddliest dog on the planet. Whenever he gets a chance he comes, put his big pretty head into your lap and let you scratch him for as long as you want. He is used to live in an apartment and he gets along well with cats, but he is not very good with dogs from the same household regardless of the gender, and that is also the reason why his temporary stay with us cannot became permanent. He is mostly indifferent towards the dogs he meets outside the house, if not he is easy to control, so I am sure he would make a great pet to someone who doesn’t have other dogs at home.

So Medo is looking for a home where he would be the only dog in the household. He will go in to his new home neutered, vaccinated and dewormed. Please help, this good old guy needs a really cool home!

It is hard to wish something nice to a dog that has it all. Or at least that is what she thinks. So only have a selfish wish to have her around for ever. Exactly the way she is. Spoiled, cocky, loud, cheerful, hyperactive, curly and well… rather dumb. ;) Happy birthday my little black devil!

Snow, snow, snow… I hate snow. Ok, I don’t really hate snow, but it is really annoying. Especially when you are finally felling good enough to actually run and your agility abstinential crisis reached its rock bottom. In the absence of any serious training, we are spending time just fooling around and enjoying snow as much as we can. Adjustable just might be our middle name.

Even though it has been more than 6 months since we have seriously trained anything, I couldn’t resist the temptation and entered my dogs to an indoors agility competition in Hungary and we enjoyed every second of it. And to my big surprise, Kiša even managed to make her first exam for A3. Interesting enough, she was the most obedient of my dogs. Maybe she has outgrown her “allovertheplace” phase. Little Šja forgot all about her name, and Šaj thought jumping is a waste of time when you can just run, but nevertheless, I was very pleased with our performance.

January is also the time to make all sorts of plans. So we made one. If everything goes according to plans, I will have a full house this time next year. Check the right corner of this page for details…
